EM&I to hold ‘live’ online demonstrations of their ‘NoMan’

Nov 19 2020

Remote surveys are quickly becoming the ‘new norm’ and EM&I have now extended this capability to ‘showcase’ new technology without the need to be there physically.

This was demonstrated recently when their ExPert Ex remote inspection system was streamed from locations in Brazil to guests around the world, letting them see the technicians, the data being collected, and the event facilitators, live and remote.

EM&I now plan to show the latest NoMan developments between the 9th and 11th of December 2020, using the same remote live system. NoMan is a method for remotely inspecting confined spaces that include pressure vessels, turrets, cargo, and water ballast tanks.

NoMan uses combined optical and synchronous laser technology to provide detailed information on a tank’s condition including thickness measurements, deformation, coating condition and both general, close visual and pitting surveys without man-entry. The inspection can be carried out by a two-person team in a fraction of the time and cost required by conventional methods.

The NoMan demonstration will take place on a full-size section of a typical FPSO tank, designed to include the range of representative anomalies described by the HITS (Hull Inspection Techniques & Strategy) JIP (Joint Industry Project), which includes representatives from leading oil majors, lease operators, classification societies and service providers.

HITS is part of the Global FPSO Research Forum and has made a significant contribution to improving hull inspection since its inception eight years ago. There will be further information on this event and invitations will be sent to interested parties nearer the time.
