Jan 04 2019

The 2012-built MR ‘Challenge Peak’, operated by Singapore-based NYK Bulkship (Asia), has shipped the first condensate cargo produced at the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG project.

The condensate was loaded from the gas liquefaction plant in Darwin, Australia, and the vessel departed for Asia on 26th December.

A joint venture between operator INPEX, Total, and others, at its peak, Ichthys is expected to produce around 8.9 mill tonnes of LNG and about 1.65 mill tonnes of LPG per annum, along with around 100,000 barrels of condensate per day.

In addition, NYK has secured Yen2 bill from Taiyo Life Insurance, as a green loan, to finance the building of the company’s first methanol-fuelled 49,000 dwt chemical tanker at Hyundai Mipo.

A green loan is described as one whose proceeds are used solely for the purpose of funding environment-friendly projects.

The loan period is for 10 years and commenced on 27th December last year. The vessel is due to be delivered this year.
