Scorpio Tankers has ordered four Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) at two South Korean yards, plus two MRs and two Handymax ice class-1A fuel efficient product tankers at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).

In addition, the company said that it had taken delivery of the 11th vessel under its newbuilding programme at HMD – ‘STI Fontvieille’.

Two VLGCs have been contracted at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) and two at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) for about $75 mill each, Scorpio confirmed.

They will be of 84,000 cu m capacity and are scheduled to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2015. As part of these agreements, the company has also negotiated fixed price options for additional vessels.

The two 52,000 dwt MRs were priced at around $35 mill each and two Handymax ice class-1A (37,000 dwt) product tankers were contracted for $32 mill each, the company said.

Each of the MRs are scheduled to be delivered during the second quarter of 2015 and the Handymax tankers are to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2014.

As for Scorpio’s 11th  newbuilding, the ‘STI Fontvieille’ began a timecharter for up to 120 days at $19,000 per day.
