Video of tanker Cap Pinède hitting Marseille port wall

A video has emerged dated Jun 22, 2020, of 3500 DWT chemical tanker Cap Pinède hitting a port wall in Marseille, said to be last weekend (understood to be June 15).

As this spectacular video which was sent to us by an internet user confirms, the supply ship Cap Pinède of the Maritima company violently struck, during the weekend, one of the dikes that protects the North Pass of the Grand Seaport of Marseille.

According to our information, the ship was able to return to a berth where it is currently located, under the protection of the fireboat Lieutenant-Commander Paul Brutus of the Marseille Marine Firefighter Battalion.

For the moment, no indication has been given on possible injuries or on possible pollution. Cap Pinède, 90 meters long, can transport 3,500 tonnes of fuel for ships.

Website Maritime Bulletin observes that the tanker was sailing at high speed, "most probably due to steering failure, because she was obviously, trying to mitigate impact by reversing engine to full astern."
