“We are very proud to be the first shipping company to have been awarded the verified EU MRV management plans, for our fleet, by the world’s leading classification society, DNV GL”, said Mattheou Dimitrios, Arcadia Shipmanagement managing director. “This verification marks the first milestone for smooth compliance with the EU MRV regulation.”
“At Arcadia we are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation of oil by sea and continue to broaden the values and ideas that build safety and environmental excellence, applying effective management systems to comply with incoming regulations to consistently achieve reliable and environmental incident-free performance,” he added.
The EU MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) regulation entered into force on 1st July, 2015 and it requires shipowners and operators to annually monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for vessels larger than 5,000 gt calling at any EU and EFTA (Norway and Iceland) port. Data collection takes place on a per voyage basis starting 1st January, 2018.
The aggregated ship emission and efficiency data will be published by the European Commission by 30th June 2019 followed by every consecutive year.
“We would like to congratulate Arcadia Shipmanagement for being the first to receive EU MRV management plan verification, for their whole fleet, by DNV GL. It demonstrates their willingness to ensure that their vessels are out in front of the market in terms of compliance and in their sensitivity to the environment,” said George Teriakidis, Business Development Manager, DNV GL – region South East Europe & Middle East. “The EU MRV is the first of many regulations that will require more of the shipping industry in terms of data collection and sharing. We have invested in developing our competence and services for this new regime, including putting in place a set of digital solutions that will make compliance as simple and transparent as possible for our customers.”
Verifavia has officially certified Vewson Nautical’s Veslink Voyage Reporting system as a solution for EU MRV regulation.
Veslink Voyage Reporting streamlines data collection and distribution from vessels, operators, agents, and counterparties, and is used by more than 100 of the top shipping organisations worldwide, managing over 5,000 vessels.
Verifavia,an-accredited global EU MRV verifier by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the French Accreditation Body (COFRAC), certified that the system complied with ISO standard 25051 on software engineering and 17065 on product certification.
With Veslink, all MRV required data is captured within standard vessel forms as part of the normal workflow for arrival, departure, and noon reporting. The collected data instantly feeds standardised reporting templates that can be submitted for MRV compliance.
In addition, Veslink users can continuously monitor their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in real-time via integrated business intelligence dash boards.
“We’ve taken a proactive approach to addressing the upcoming EU MRV regulation so that our clients will be in compliance without having to modify their existing workflows,” said John Veson, Veson Nautical president. “We’re excited to have developed a certified solution within Veslink to ensure compliance well in advance of the deadline, making the process simple for our users. Our philosophy has always been to evolve our products to support the needs of our clients and that includes acquiring certification for regulatory requirements like MRV.”
