Bahrain command centre opened to protect tankers

Nov 08 2019

The US-led naval coalition in the Middle East Gulf, established in response to attacks on tankers, opened a command centre in Bahrain on Thursday, the US Fifth Fleet said.

Recent attacks have heightened the risk of disruption to MEG oil exports shipped through the Strait of Hormuz, it was explained. The US blamed the attacks on Iran but Tehran denied any involvement.

The coalition is known as the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC). Bahrain is home to the US Fifth Fleet.
