BIMCO in publication drive

Mar 08 2019

BIMCO is launching a new business area – publications – with the aim to share more of the organisation’s knowledge and increase the amount of publications offered.

This year, and beyond, BIMCO will be publishing several new publications in close co-operation with Witherby Publishing Group.

Two of the most recent publications, an updated version of the ‘BIMCO Shipmaster’s Security Manual’ and the ‘Ship Lay-up Guide’ are available on Witherby Publishing Group’s website.

“Offering our expert knowledge and practical advice through publications is a very strong part of BIMCO’s DNA,” explained BIMCO secretary general and CEO, Angus Frew.

“Therefore, it is only a natural step for us to further develop this area and pass on that knowledge through the new Publications business area,” Frew added.

With the new business area, BIMCO will be covering a lot of ground that currently reflects its core business areas, in addition to launching new publications covering areas, such as contracts related to offshore, cyber security, ice navigation and more, the organisation said.

The BIMCO Shipmaster’s Security Manual is an example of how expert knowledge can be gathered for the benefit of a large variety of players in the industry. The manual has recently been updated with guidelines on cyber security on board ships and guidelines on migrant rescue at sea.

Going forward, BIMCO and Witherby are planning to launch publications, including the ‘Shipmaster’s Ballast Water Manual’ and the ‘Ice Navigation and Seamanship Handbook’.

BIMCO members will get a 20% discount on all the publications that the organisation becomes involved in.

In addition, BIMCO’s market analysis team has spearheaded the launch of a multimedia page on the BIMCO website, where videos and sound bites of the latest market analysis and comments will be available.

The multimedia page’s launch corresponds with the release of the recordings from the most recent quarterly report on the three main shipping markets, including tankers.

These webinars, presented by Peter Sand, BIMCO’s chief shipping analyst and Rasmus Nord Jørgensen, BIMCO’s communication director, are held on a quarterly basis coinciding with the release of the BIMCO Bulletin.

Previously, recordings of these webinars were to be found on BIMCO’s YouTube Channel, and while this will continue, the multimedia page on the website will allow for more direct access.

The multimedia page will be regularly updated with BIMCO webinars, as well as interviews and podcasts. The page will not only include content from the market analysis team, but also webinars and videos from other departments will be included at a later stage.

These will includes webinars and videos produced by other departments within the organisation, such as Contracts & Clauses, Maritime Technology & Regulation, Maritime Security, etc.
