This book will replace the previous edition that was published in 2002.
The ICS said that it strongly recommended that a copy is carried on board every tanker engaged in the carriage of chemical cargoes and that copies are also held within shipping company technical departments.
As well as taking account of the latest industry best practice, large sections of the Guide have been totally rewritten, primarily with the aim of assisting seafarers’ comprehension, the ICS said.
The new edition takes full account of the adoption by the IMO in May 2014 of important amendments to the SOLAS Convention, following a major IMO review of tanker safety that has taken the best part of a decade to complete.
These amendments include new mandatory requirements for the inerting of chemical tankers. Together with recent changes made to the IMO Fire Safety Systems (FSS) Code, these SOLAS amendments are fully reflected in the new edition, the publishers said.
Particular attention has also been given during the preparation of the fourth edition to the question of how to instil an effective safety culture among everyone involved in chemical tanker operations.
The book will be published by Marisec Publications with a target date of November, 2014, although orders are now being taken.
The full list price is £395 per copy, plus delivery charge (quotation provided on application), although payment will not be taken until the Guide is published.
The revised Guide, which will be similar in length to the current edition, will contain an accompanying CD, which will include various search functions.
