ClassNK updates EGCS Guidelines

Sep 01 2017

ClassNK has released the second version of its ‘Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems’.

Based on the first version released in August, 2014, the latest version includes the results of joint research and testing on actual EGCS.

To comply with the IMO’s SOx and PM regulation, EGCS, which reduce the amount of SOx and PM in ship emissions, are one method for complying with the regulations in addition to use of the compliant fuel.

With growing interest in EGCS installation stemming from stricter global sulfur limits, ClassNK is releasing the second version of its ‘Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems’.

In addition to interpretations of the updated IMO guidelines, the second version of the Guidelines incorporates standards for EGCS installation based on findings of joint research projects which included trial testing of the equipment on board ships and design trials.

The Guidelines also include requirements for obtaining class notations signifying that a ship fulfils requirements for EGCS installation and readiness.

Version 2 is available free of charge via ClassNK’s website www.classnk.com for those who have registered for the ClassNK ‘My Page’ service. To register for the ‘My Page’ service free of charge, please visit the ClassNK website and click on the ‘My Page Login’ button.
