Cyprus recognises RS

Oct 16 2015

The Cyprus Maritime Administration (CMA) has completed the audit of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) as a recognised organisation (RO).

Such audits are mandatory under the Code for Recognised Organisations, which entered into force on 1st January, 2015.

The first agreement on delegation of authority between CMA and RS was concluded in 2005. At present, RS performs classification and statutory certification for more than 40 ships flying the Cyprus flag, both in service and under construction.

The aim of the audit, held in October 2015, was to confirm RS compliance, as an RO, with the requirements of applicable instruments of the IMO, European Union and the CMA.

During the audit, the implementation of particular authorisations by RS was considered in detail, RS quality management systems, access to information and data exchange, RS procedures in the event of audits or PSC ship detentions, as well as a number of other technical aspects related to the implementation of the IMO instruments during ship construction, the CMA explained.
