Brookes Bell, the multi-disciplinary marine, scientific and technical consultancy, has appointed four PhD-level cargo scientists to its UK and Asian teams.

The consultancy’s cargo scientists provide expert opinion, as well as assisting in determining the cause, nature and extent of spoilage and contamination incidents involving cargoes including chemicals. They also advise clients on matters relating to loss prevention and ship safety in regards to the carriage of hazardous cargoes.

On the liquid bulk side, Bryan Ward has joined the company. In addition to survey investigations of cargo damage in bulk or packaged agricultural, mineral or chemical cargoes, he also advises on fuel, bunker and liquid bulk cargo claims and carries out laboratory attendances in the fuel chemistry and cargo testing fields. 

In addition to advising on the ocean carriage and storage of a wide variety of commodities, newcomer Marcelo Rodriguez will advise on biofouling and marine biology matters.   

Karwei So and Wen Li have also joined Brookes Bell’s Asian team, based in Hong Kong and Shanghai respectively, reporting to Tim Moss, Head of Cargo Science Asia.

****The Centre Testing International Group (CTI) has appointed Capt Herbert Soanes to oversee its global maritime business.

As Senior Vice President managing global maritime client relations, Capt Soanes will be based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Previously, Capt Soanes was Misuga Group’s CCO for Europe and the Americas; prior to which he was Senior Vice President at DVB Bank, responsible for risk mitigation functions in its global shipping and offshore business.

CTI’s General Manager, John Ren Di, said “Capt Soanes brings a wealth of experience to his responsibilities, as we seek to provide our global customers with the world`s best service in the areas of inventory hazardous materials (IHM) preparation, maintenance, mitigation management, as well as in the consultancy related to the lifecycle of their maritime assets.“
