Latvian MR attacked off West Africa

The 2006-built Latvian MR ‘Ance’ was attacked on 16th September, while at anchor off Conakry, West Africa, the IMB has confirmed.

Four armed robbers boarded the tanker, taking the crew hostage. After looting the cabins, the robbers locked the crew in a cabin and escaped. Seafarer’s personal belongings, cash and ship’s property was stolen. One seafarer was thought injured.

 

The local coast guard, law enforcement organisations and insurers were immediately informed about the incident.

 

‘Ance’s’ crew numbered 21, including two Georgians, one Lithuanian and 18 Latvians.
