The Standard Club has expanded its presence in Greater China after its Singapore based subsidiary, Standard Asia, gained authorisation earlier this year to carry on insurance business in Hong Kong.

Standard Asia has established a Hong Kong branch, which is led by CEO, Michael Turnbull, a legally-qualified insurance industry veteran who was previously CEO of another International Group P&I Club in Hong Kong.

Turnbull, who holds independent non-executive director positions on the boards of two Hong Kong insurance companies, reports to David Roberts, Managing Director of Standard Asia.

Coatings manufacturer Hempel has appointed Nigel Shewring as its new Group Director of Research & Development (R&D).

He joins the company to ensure all Hempel's future innovations deliver clear competitive advantages and to further develop its product portfolio to support ongoing organic growth, the company said.

Shewring’s key responsibilities include managing the overall activities in Hempel's 15 R&D centres around the world.
