Silver is the law firm’s third Marshall Islands qualified attorney, joining New York partner Brian Devine who was admitted to practise Marshall Islands law in 2016 and Singapore of counsel, Sung-Hwan ‘SD’ Choi who was also admitted to practise Marshall Islands law in 2016 and joined the firm in May, 2017.
Norton Rose Fulbright said that it now has one of the world’s largest Marshall Islands practices, and is able to better serve clients operating across all time zones.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) ship registry is the second largest, representing a significant number of the world's commercial shipping fleet. A growing number of business entities formed in the RMI are routinely used as corporate vehicles for shipping and non-shipping activities.
In another move, one of the law firm’s partners and Master Mariner, Dr Peter Glover, has relocated to Hong Kong from the London office.
Glover is a disputes lawyer who specialises in shipping, trade and marine insurance.
With extensive experience acting on international arbitrations and mediations, he has advised several Asian and other multinational trading companies, shipowners, charterers, banks and insurers in all aspects of dispute resolution involving trade, commercial shipping, admiralty, salvage, pollution, investigations, marine insurance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
He has previously acted on several Asia-related disputes, including a ship collision in Greater China, tanker charterparty disputes for major Japanese trading houses, arrests of ships for Japanese banks, and shortage and contamination claims for various Hong Kong owners.
Prior to turning to the law, he served at sea for 11 years on oil major tankers, and later as a fleet safety officer, and has expertise in all aspects of tanker operations, claims management and incident response.
Glover joined the firm in 2009 and was made a partner in London in 2017. He is vice chairman of the Intertanko Documentary Committee, a visiting lecturer at the City of London Cass Business School in marine insurance, a supporting member of the LMAA, a member of the Association of Average Adjusters and a member of the Baltic Exchange.
