SEA HEALTH & WELFARE and Seagull Maritime have together developed the on board course for members of the safety committee.
This course covers the basic international requirements laid down under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, Regulation 4.3 – Health and safety protection and accident prevention and Guidelines for implementing the occupational safety and health provisions of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, Section 5.7.
The course has been approved by the Danish Maritime Authority for Danish-flagged vessels.
SEA HEALTH & WELFARE is responsible for the content, consisting of e-learning modules and practical tasks to ensure it fulfils international requirements.
The modules run on an electronic platform provided by Seagull Maritime, which is managed and assessed for quality on an ongoing dynamic process by SEA HEALTH & WELFARE.
It consists of 14 e-learning modules, a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises in dialogue with the Master, appointed supervisor(s), elected safety representative(s) and the crew on board.
The objective of this course is to give seafarers the necessary training and knowledge required to carry out their duties as a member of the safety committee.
It will connect theory and practice, in co-operation with fellow seafarers on board to promote a safe and healthy working environment on ships. It makes a positive, sustainable footprint by reducing the need to travel and accommodate for courses ashore, Seagull said.
This course will be available for purchase by shipping companies for their respective ships from the 6th August, 2018.
Established to support Danish-flagged ships, SEA HEALTH & WELFARE has been internationally recognised for offering solutions and guidance relating to on board issues.
It is an independent non-profit body, based in Greater Copenhagen, Denmark with the principal aim of advancing occupational safety, health and welfare, making the maritime working environment fit for purpose in the 21st Century.
