SafeSTS’ strong start in the Middle East

Following the recent inauguration of SafeSTS Middle East, the operation has made a strong start in the region, undertaking five UAE ship-to-ship (STS) transfers for two oil majors in its first six weeks of operation.

The first two transfers took place at Khor Fakkan’s ‘C’ anchorage, whilst the next three were at its Fujairah ‘S’ anchorage. Both anchorages are in the Gulf of Oman and a total of nearly 2,334,000 barrels of oil were involved in the five operations.

The company is part of the SafeSTS international lightering company owned by Future Marine Services.

Capt Jagdeep Singh Sodhi, SafeSTS regional director, said: "The company was formed to support the growing demand for ship-to-ship transfers of the full range of petroleum products, and these first five operations involved black fuel oil, crude oil and gas oil.

“One of SafeSTS core strengths is its understanding of vessel dynamics, operability and logistics, so it was particularly pleasing to work with the different mother and daughter vessels, which took part in these five operations.

"I believe that there is an excellent opportunity for the growth of the company here in the Middle East. Safety is at the forefront and we are operating above industry specified safety guidelines to maintain our exemplary safety record. I am greatly looking forward to expanding our regional client base," he said.

Capt Jagdeep is also investigating the Indian sub-continent for any potential bases and partnerships.

Since its inception in May, 2010 the company has successfully conducted over 1,900 STS operations transferring in excess of 460 mill barrels of oil.
