STS service provider course held in Brazil

Mar 15 2019

At the end of last month, the first Ship to Ship Service Provider Management Course was held in Rio de Janeiro organised and delivered by DYNAMARINe Training Academy.

The five-day training course was requested by the Brazilian Navy. DYNAMARINe designed the course over a four-month period and it then received the relevant accreditation from ABS.

The invitation came from the Brazilian Directorate of Ports and Coasts, responsible for the ratification of Ship to Ship (STS) regulations within the Brazilian EEZ, which extends 200 nautical miles offshore.

The training course consisted of 20 sessions - three training sessions per day, together with a workshop during the last session.

Having established an interactive engagement amongst the participants, was by far the most important aspect of this five-day course, DYNAMARINe said. Although the course duration was for eight hours each day, fatigue was not an issue.

On day five, a presentation was delivered by Thenamaris (Ships Management). Capt George Deligiorgis gave a presentation focusing on STS fleet experiences, substandard practices from STS service providers and finally lessons learned for his company.
