USCG receives another BWMS type approval application

Mar 16 2018

The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Centre (MSC) has received its 10th application for a ballast water management system (BWMS) type approval certificate.

The application was received for the BIO-SEA B BWMS manufactured by the BIO-UV Group.

MSC will review the application for compliance with USCG regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that the application meets the requirements, the MSC will issue a type approval certificate.

BIO-UV said that it expected an approval in 90 days as the BWMS had passed all the land-based and shipboard tests under DNV GL supervision.

The company claimed to be one of only three UV manufacturers to apply for a USCG type approval.

More than 100 vessels have been fitted with its BWMS thus far, BIO-UV said.
