Aframax cargo to be seized off Canada

Jul 07 2017

The Federal Court of Canada has ordered the arrest of a 721,915 barrel cargo of Kurdistan crude on board the 2003-built Finaval Aframax ‘Neverland’.

The Court order for the cargo’s arrest was made on the request of the Iraq Oil Ministry.

Iraq has also filed a claim against commodity trading house Vitol and subsidiaries including Mansel, the charterer of the ship and Finaval Spa di Navigazione, the owner of the ship, for $32.5 mill.

Iraq claims the cargo was unlawfully misappropriated by the Kurdistan Regional Government and sold to Vitol to be loaded onto the Neverland.

The Aframax was believed to have sailed from Turkey’s Botas Ceyhan Terminal on or around 13th June heading for the Atlantic.
