He will in future play a key role in connecting the firm's UK and Middle East offices.
Marr has been a partner with Clyde & Co since 2002 and in Dubai since 2009. During his six years in the Middle East, the firm’s MENA shipping and international trade teams have seen significant expansion, with the shipping team becoming one of the largest in the region with 15 specialist marine lawyers.
During his time in Dubai, Marr has acted on many high profile cases in arbitration and litigation, some run in the UK, others in the Middle East. A number of these were precedent–setting, such as such as ETA v SFI [2015] EWHC 1452 in the English Commercial Court; TTMI v. Statoil [2011]2 Lloyd's Rep 220 in the English Court of Appeal and, X v Y (ARB-002-2013) in the DIFC Court.
He will also continue to advise his extensive client base of major oil traders, P&I Clubs, state-owned charterers and shipowners from the London office.
Christopher Jobson will replace Marr in the role of head of shipping and international trade for MENA. Jobson is a litigation and arbitration lawyer and has been advising on maritime law since 1988.
His clients include regional and international energy companies, financial institutions, P&I clubs, shipowners and charterers and logistics organisations.
Michael Payton QC (Hon), Clyde & Co chairman, commented; "Clyde & Co has a truly international client base and thorough understanding of marine and trade clients' global operations. The global spread of our marine expertise mirrors our clients operations.
“We see Irvine's relocation as an opportunity to further enhance the firm's marine, trade & commodities offering. Irvine will be based in London but still work in tandem with the team in MENA, which will enable the two regions to work closer than ever," he explained.
