LPG manager chooses KVH

Singapore-based LPG carrier operator Byzantine Maritime Gas has selected KVH Industries to provide VSAT services for its new fleet.

The company is deploying KVH’s TracPhone V11-IP antenna systems with the mini-VSAT Broadband service.

“We chose KVH for its global coverage and fast data speeds, which are essential for our modern fleet to be able to operate as efficiently as possible,” said Capt Belal Ahmed, director of Byzantine Maritime Gas. “We also find it very important to have a tool such as the myKVH portal, which provides valuable vessel positioning, data control, and fleet management for us.”

The TracPhone V11-IP chosen by Byzantine is a dual-mode C/Ku-band antenna system designed by KVH to provide global connectivity, redundancy, and rain-fade resistance, while delivering data speeds up to 4 Mbps downlink and 1 Mbps uplink.

Byzantine will use KVH’s network management services via the CommBox Network Manager, which is built into the TracPhone V11-IP’s below decks unit. CommBox   provide least cost routing and connection-specific firewall rules, as well as web caching and compression – important management tools for optimising the data being used on board the vessel, KVH said.

The myKVH web portal that Byzantine will use as part of the mini-VSAT Broadband service offers a single, secure site with the tools to configure the on board network, monitor vessel positioning, obtain vessel data usage status, and allocate data usage to individual users or tasks on board.

KVH developed this portal to meet the shipping industry’s need for a critical tool for bandwidth management, and is a key component in enabling Byzantine to manage its usage-based monthly airtime plans.
