TMC wins advanced shuttle tanker contracts

Mar 09 2018

TMC Compressors of the Seas (TMC) has won a contract from Samsung Heavy Industries to provide marine compressed air systems to four LNG-fuelled shuttle tankers under construction for Teekay Offshore.

TMC will deliver a complete compressed air system to each of the four shuttle tankers, including compressors for service and control air, as well as adsorption air dryers.

Samsung is building four Suezmax-size, DP2 shuttle tankers for Teekay Offshore, based on Teekay Offshore’s new ‘Shuttle Spirit’ design, which incorporates technologies to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, including LNG propulsion systems.

The vessels will be delivered in 2019 and 2020 and will operate in the North Sea. TMC will make the first equipment delivery in the third quarter of 2018.

“Samsung Heavy Industries have selected TMC’s compressors for a wide range of newbuild vessels in recent years, for a number of different clients. It is fantastic to be asked to be involved with these environmentally ground breaking shuttle tankers too,” said Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.
